NEILLSVILLE, WI - Lake Sherwood
2010 Race Date - Jan 9/10 - Saturday Moose 3hr Endurance Race (non-points G.P.), Sunday points - Race Results
Neillsville is one of the most anticipated races of the season! With the weekend kickoff of the Moose 3hr Endurance Race on Saturday, Sunday's Central Wisconsin Ice Racing Series points race is usually has one of the best turnouts of the season. The Moose Endurance Race is a non-CWIRA event but features one of the biggest ice G.P. layouts of the season designed by the legendary racer Jeff Fredette. Sunday the racing turns to the traditional ovals, but the G.P. classes also run the BIG course from Saturday. The Moose Race on Saturday will be a 3hr race for bikes and WILL have a 1hr race for quads following. Quad racers should plan on arriving by 1pm for signup and practice at 2pm. CWIRA membership is not required on Saturday.
Food vending and race sign-up will be in the picnic shelter adjacent to the boat landing as you proceed onto the ice from the park.
Sponsors: Moose Racing; Parts Unlimited; DP Brakes; Wiseco Pistons; Smith Optics; Power Pac Inc.; TCR Powerproducts.
NOTE: As this will be only the second race of the 2010 season expect a line of people renewing their CWIRA Membership. You can avoid this by renewing by mail - click here for more information. CWIRA Membership is required at all events (with the exception of the Saturday MOOSE race) and is $30 per year. One-day memberships are available for $10 and they do count towards a season membership. We do reserve the rider numbers used each season so check that information prior to raceday right here.
History: 2009 Results The CWIRA literally got it's start along the lakes and backwaters of Wisconsin's Black River Valley. The Neillsville Ice Race has a long history and has been held at several locations in the past, most recently Snyder Park before moving to it's current spot on Lake Sherwood. Many long time CWIRA racers call this part of the state home, and is considered their "local" race. Having the advantage of good early season ice has brought many fast rides from the warmer South and the result has always been a fast and highly competitive event. Moose Racing has been a sponsor of Off-Road events in Clark County for many years featuring pro races on the extensive trail network in the Clark County Forest.
Promoter: This event is promoted by Larry Strangfeld, current Vice-President of the Central Wisconsin Ice Racing Association. Phone (715) 743-3893 email lstrangfeld@hotmail.com He can also be contacted via Power Pac Motorsports. The Saturday Moose Endurance Race is promoted by John Strangfeld - phone (608) 215-7032 email concepts29@gmail.com
Race Day Schedule: The CWIRA normal Sunday race day starts with sign-up opening at 8am and running until 10. We will sign you up at most any time of the day but there will be a penalty if it is after 10am. Practice usually runs from 9 until 10 with riders meeting at 10:30. The first race of the day gets underway shortly after the end of the riders meeting - usually 11am.
Directions: From the Southwest take 54 out of Black River Falls to City Point, then North on Cty Z. From the South and East you will want to be West of Pittsville on 73 again to Cty Z. About halfway between 73 and 54 on Cty Z it makes several curves - there will be Badger Ave. to the South. Follow that to Dyer Road (you will only be able to go right) and that will go into Sherwood Park. From the Northwest you can take 73 South from Neillsville or 13 to 73 out of Marshfield. CAUTION: Every year somebody dumps into the ditch at the corner of Badger & Dyer. IT WILL BE SLIPPERY and it is a sharp corner. Once you leave Cty Z onto Badger Ave. be very careful and watch your speed!
